The City Government of Dumaguete through the City Tourism Office is pleased to advise that the Candian Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Neil Reeder visited Dumaguete City with his wife, Madame Irene Hansen-Reeder last March 30, 2015.
The Ambassador paid a courtesy call to the City Mayor, Manuel T. Sagarbbaria through an intimate meeting with City Vice Mayor, Woodrow Maquiling Sr. as part of the Canadian Embassy’s advocacy and diplomacy work in the promotion and strengthening of Philippine-Canadian relationship on trade and investments, tourism and immigration in the country. Reeder also met with other government officials through a fellowship gathering in honor of the Ambassador.
During the said visit, the honorable mayor expressed his hope in fortifying ties with Canada through a sister-city agreement which was conformed by the Ambassador suggesting Toronto, Calgary and Alberta as possible cities due to the number of Filipino population in each.
The said Ambassador also commended on the beauty and orderliness of the City as well the hospitality exuded by the Dumaguete Community adding that the Dumaguete’s tourism industry shows great potential. This was seconded by the Mayor boasting that Dumaguete is already recognized across the world as it bagged the 5th rank in the Best Places to Retire in the World as published by the forbes.com, yahoo finance and the likes.
City Tourism Officer, Woodrow C. Maquiling Jr. Also added that among the many tourists visiting the City, Canada ranked 5th in the 2014 Tourist Arrivals report with a total of 2,396 arrivals. (TA_CTO_KTAguilar)
