DUMAGUETE CITY— The city government of Dumaguete through the City Social Welfare Office will join nationwide family week celebration from September 20-30,2013.

The theme for this year celebration; “ Unity Across Generation: A Strong Family, A Strong Society”.
George Gilvero, Chairperson of the Family Week celebration said, the celebration aims to highlight the importance of families, enhance understanding of their functions and problems, and focus attention on the rights and responsibilities of all family members.
Gilvero said , the activity will start with the ecumenical service on September 23 at 1:30 pm in the afternoon to be held at the Cultural hall of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located in Barangay Tinago.
Other highlight of the celebrations: On September 24 from 8am to 12;00 noon -Kalipi family Fun day symposium on the theme at the Womens Center; September 23 at 9am- Kapihan sa PIA Forum at Bethel Guest House and in the afternoon, Family dialogue; September 26 from 1pm to 5pm- Poster making contest;September 27-Skills Training from8am to 12 noon.
Meanwhile, on September 23 to 27,2013, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints, commonly called Mormons will hold an exhibit for the family history called Genealogy, which, means, to know you family tree and answer to the need to strengthen family ties and to know one’s heritage, the Family History Exhibit is open to the public to be held at the Cultural hall of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located in barangay Tinago.
Also, highlights of the one week celebration is the Medical and Dental Mission on September 27 from 8am to 12 noon at the Quezon park.
The Family Celebration was instituted by Presidential Proclamation No. 60 in 1992 by then President Fidel V. Ramos declaring the last full week of September every year as Family Week. The National Committee on the Filipino Family chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) spearheads this celebration with partners from non-government organizations, government agencies, and the private sector.
