DUMAGUETE CITY- The City Government of Dumaguete City, through its Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), has collected 12,980 kilos of garbage during the International Coastal and Waterways clean-up held recently along the coastal barangays and inland barangays in the city.
Flora Ocao CRMP Coordinator of ENRO said, the participants coming from 22 local and national government most of them city hall employees, 13 Universities and colleges and high school students coming from private and public schools with 8 barangays participated in the said activity, collected garbage along shoreline areas from barangay Piapi to barangay Banilad and clean up drive along Banica river.
Ocao said, they collected 4,530 kilos of garabage along Banica river ( 755 kilos biodegradable and 3,775 kilos of non-biodegradable), while in the coastal areas, they also collected 8,450 kilos of garbage(725 kilos biodegradable and 7,725 kilos)
OIC-ENRO Officer Reynaldo Awayan said, he lauded the help of the Coast Guard and its auxiliary group, the BPI Bayan, the DENR, the United States Peace Corps, the 302nd Infantry Brigade, 350.Org, the Philippine National Police, and business establishments, among others.
Awayan, further said, the city government has been implementing Ordinance No. 88, the Comprehensive Coastal Resources Management program, to address coastal problems on dumping of solid waste along the coastlines and waterways by residents.
