DUMAGUETE CITY, — The City Government of Dumaguete City, through its Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), has collected 865 kilos of garbage during the coastal clean-up last Saturday along the coastal barangays in the city.
Flora Ocao CRMP Coordinator of ENRO said, the participants coming from 16 local and national government most of them city hall employees, collected garbage along shoreline areas from barangay Piapi to barangay Banilad.
Ocao said the activity was also one way of making the environment life-supportive and ecologically friendly for Dumagueteños and tourists as well.
OIC-ENRO Officer Reynaldo Awayan said, the clean-up drive was participated in by the city hall employees and local officials In support of International Earth Day on April 22 celebration.
Awayan, further said, the city government has been implementing Ordinance No. 88, the Comprehensive Coastal Resources Management program, to address coastal problems on dumping of solid waste along the coastlines and waterways by residents.
Meanwhile, the ENRO Office, also planted 2,030 Mangrove Trees along the coastal line of barangay Banilad last April 25, with the participants coming from the Ilocos Region, one of delegates of Palarong Pambansa and the NORSU ROTC and Air Force cadets.(PIO-Dumaguete)
